With the summer heat in fullswing, Vesas Automotive knows how uncomfortable it can be to deal with unexpected vehicle breakdowns or traffic tickets. That’s why by popular demand, we are proud to present to you the first in our new series on warning signs that could mean trouble ahead for you and your passengers. This blog entry will explore the dreaded rapidclicking and hyperflashing menace known as a faulty turning signal. Check it out!
Every driver is familiar with that telltale colored arrow and clicking sound that activates when a driver is turning his vehicle, but for those who have never experienced it, a sudden change in the speed or brightness of the signal itself could be an indicator that there’s a problem. Normally electricity from the car passes through what’s known as a “thermal flasher,” causing a small metal strip inside to heat up and expand and thus complete the circuit for the turning signal. After the circuit is complete, the electricity flows through the turning signal instead which allows the metal to cool and shrink, breaking the circuit and starting the whole process over again.
If your turning signal starts to blink/click rapidly, some part of the thermal flasher process has been compromised. The most likely culprit is a blown or dying bulb, as when the filament begins to fail the flow of electrical current changes and the turning signal will flash differently. Replacing the bad bulb usually fixes the problem, though depending on the type of car it may be difficult to access the bulb to make the switch. That’s where Vesas Automotive comes in! Feel free to call and make an appointment for us to diagnose your issue and we will happily get your blinkers back to perfect working order. In the meantime, happy driving!
