As the snowy season looms on the horizon, a common question that consumers face is whether or not to swap out their regular tires for snow tires, and Vesas Automotive understands that this is a very valid question. Ultimately it comes down to a variety of factors that range from a person’s driving style to his or her geographic area, but there are certain things that every driver should consider before making an appointment with the tire garage.
The Benefits of AllSeason Tires As a general rule, most consumer vehicles are fitted with allseason tires when they leave the factory, and for good reason. Allseason tires are designed to provide a quiet ride, good fuel economy, and are versatile enough to accommodate the needs of drivers across the board. Be it asphalt in the rain or a dirt road in sunshine, allseason tires get the job done. And for drivers who are looking to save money or just don’t want the added expense of keeping a second set of tires lying around, using a single set of allseason tires is just plain convenient.
The Benefits of Snow Tires Of course that being said, allseason tires just aren’t specialized enough to handle the tricky business of winter driving with the same performance levels as they can in spring and summer months. Allseason tires have shallow tread patterns and are made of a rubber that tends to stiffen in the cold, reducing road grip and traction in winter. Snow tires by comparison maintains excellent flexibility in low temperatures and are made with specialized, nonskid tread patterns designed specifically for icy, snowy conditions. While more limited as to their use, snow tires’ specialization means better stopping distances and overall response time in the snow and increases driver safety by a considerable amount when compared to the allseason variety.
